Packing On The Pounds

Ray San is really packing on the weight. He is up 35 grams to 1640 grams (3 lbs. 9.8 oz.). He is also 42.5 cm (16.7 inches) long. He was a little under 14 inches at birth. He's still getting a protein enriched 31 ml of my milk as well as extra iron. All they are really working on right now is his growth. His incubator is down to 28.7 degrees Celsius. When it gets down to 28 degrees, he will be at room temperature. If he can keep his temperature up for about 6 hours at 28 degrees, he will be in a regular nursery bed instead of the incubator. This is my next goal for him.
Today was a big day for Ray. He finally got to hold Ray San. The other few times he had the opportunity, he didn't want to because he had just been in the kitchen all day. He felt he was too dirty.

They also believe that Ray San's PDA valve has closed since they no longer hear a murmur when they listen to his heart. This is just one more thing we can check off his list.

Ray San also had a feeding evaluation today. He still seems to be a little behind in this area. He doesn't have the sucking, swallowing and breathing all at once down. He also doesn't have the instinct to latch on when they put the pacifier in his mouth. He just needs a little more work. They say that actual breastfeeding is usually the last thing they pick up. Once he does that, he gets to come home. That means he probably has another couple three weeks before he learns the art of breastfeeding.

The pictures.

The cute hat he is wearing was a little gift from my friend Joanna. She knit it for Ray San.
