Take 2

A nurse told us the other day that Ray San brought a wave of 25 week preemies. They apparently had three or four 25 week-ers as well as a 24 I guess. The NICU is full and they actually had to send one preemie away. They have a total of 7 preemies now... crazy!! The poor nurses have been busy.

Speaking of busy, this morning at 10:15 a.m., they put Ray San on the CPAP again for the second time. He was essentially breathing on his own while on the ventilator so they decided it was time to take him off and have him breathe on his own. He's doing really well while he is awake. He gets into trouble when he falls asleep. They have decided to keep him on the CPAP for now since his blood gas numbers are really good. This means that he isn't working too hard which was his problem the first time he went on the CPAP. So as long as he continues to have good numbers and doesn't stop breathing too many times tonight, they will keep him on CPAP. I'm not really sure how the CPAP machine works, I just know that it means he is breathing on his own. Ray is going to stop in tonight after he gets off work and see if Ray San is back on the ventilator or not. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ray San is doing what the doctors want and breathing.

Here is what the CPAP looks like. It is basically a little mask over Ray San's nose attached to a tube.

In other news, Ray San is really opening his eyes a lot now and seems to be up to 2 lbs. 3 oz. again. They are also going to measure his length tonight. I'm assuming he's going to still be around his birth length of 14 inches.
